Serbia again first by the number of asylum requests filed in Germany
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany announced that, according to data released by the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees on February 7th, 2014, Serbia again was the first in the total number of asylum applications in January 2014.
From a total of 14,463 applications for asylum in Germany in January of 2014, Serbian citizens filed 2 548 requests of which 1 776 for the first time, while the 777 were repeated requests.
Serbia also was first in December 2013 with 2 416 requests, as well as in November, with 2 613 requests for asylum.
By the number of asylum applications in January, behind Serbia are Syria (1 734), Macedonia (1 024), Afghanistan (1 015), Bosnia and Herzegovina (775), Russia (642), Somalia (592), Kosovo, as an entity statistically viewed separately from Serbia (555), Eritrea (502).
In 2013 Serbia found itself in the first place by the total number of submitted and repeated requests for asylum in Germany.
Compared to January 2013, the number of asylum requests in Germany in January 2014, was higher for even 76.7 percent, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany.
In comparison with other countries of the European Union, Germany was in the first place with the total number of about 130 000 asylum seekers during last year.
