Djilas: There no logic in making the asylum centers on the territory of Belgrade

Today Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas supported the citizens of Mladenovac in their efforts to not allow construction of an asylum center in their municipality, saying that the state needs to provide the specific capacities for the asylum seekers.

Djilas was on the panel in Mladenovac, at which he spoke as president of the Democratic Party and pointed out that asylum seekers need to have a place and that the government has to build special capacities for them, but they certainly should not be in Mladenovac because of the difficult economic situation, low standard of living and a large number of refugees.

- There is no logic in making the asylum centers on the territory of Belgrade, for that you have my full support. This is a municipality in which there is no industry and that already has enough of their problems. Looks like someone wants to punish Mladenovac because the municipal government still lies in the hands of the Democrats - said Djilas.

He pointed out that the citizens of Mladenovac have a lot of energy with which they can do a lot like they did it before, in the past.

On the panel was told that the 17.26 acres of arable land could be used in a better way than to build asylum center.

Extremist movement SNP "Naši" had previously sought to ban the construction of asylum centers in Ruma, using similar arguments as the leader of the Democratic Party.

- If the regime really decide to move the asylum seekers from Banja Koviljaca to Ruma, the SNP "Naši" will invite citizens to peaceful protests and blockade of the old military barrack in order to prevent them to move in. We understand the need to solve this problem, but that must be without shifting the problem on the back to the citizens of Ruma - have announced "Naši".
