An increasing number of migrants are trying to cross the Croatian border - among them a large number of underage boys

Over the past week, the mobile team of Asylum Protection Center (APC / CZA) is facing an increasing number of migrants in the north trying to cross the Croatian border. Currently, in the area around the Croatian border, at least 300 people live in the open, mostly of Pakistan and Afghan descent, of which at least a third are unaccompanied minors, boys aged 12 to 17 years. Some of them state that they entered our country 20 days ago, while most state that they have been in Serbia only 7 days. These boys are in a very difficult situation, some of them have already tried to cross illegally, and in addition to exposing themselves to physical violence and torture from Croatian police officers, they have lost their phones and the possibility of contacting their families.

According to the latest information from the field, at least 100 people are trying to enter the territory of Croatia, most often trying to cross the sidewalk, walking along the railroad or forest in the vicinity of Sid, but more and more boats are trying to reach the coasts in the Croatian territory, exposing themselves to a high risk of overturning because in one boat sometimes there are as many as 20 people.

APC / CZA regularly informs persons, particularly unaccompanied minors, with the ways in which they can exercise their right to legal residence and accommodation in camps. Only in the last two days our team met and provided counseling and information services for 50 unaccompanied minors who are outdoors in the municipalities of Sid and Sombor.

Otherwise, there are 1200 refugees in camps on the northern border, of which up to 800 people are in camps Adaševci and Principovac, where according to field reports, all capacities for accommodation are currently filled. Along the border with Croatia, at least 300 people currently reside in open locations, mostly from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
